This unit teaches how to graph company profits, and create equations for projecting profits based on future sales.
Students will:
- Create linear graphs of company sales and profits.
- Create linear equations to represent company sales and profits.
Ideas For Teaching
Many students don’t like graphing and don’t understand linear equations. They think of it as solving for X and Y and that linear equations haves no meaning. Remember that graphing is a tool to help us understand what is happening in life. The equation isn’t the goal. The goal is to understand what is happening and project what will happen given certain inputs. Focus on the application, not the equation. If it isn’t real life, then it doesn’t really help them.
